Inspire Ordinary People to Do Extraordinary Things

How do you do this? One way is to encourage risk. Helping people to take risks is one of the hardest things to do. But it is completely do-able.

I have experienced it first hand and many times. Even though I am a risk taker, it’s always scary for me. I have taken risks with my career, building other businesses, moving to new cities and other things. Yes, it is very scary at first, but I believe that without my taking some of these risks, I wouldn’t be where I am today. For example, I was a guidance counselor for 10 years and even though the field of guidance was changing, I still liked it.

One day I was given an opportunity to try organizational consulting. Leave my nice career of guidance and take a risk with a man, in his practice, and work for him and learn a new skill. After one year of learning from him, I left and took the risk of starting my own consulting firm.

Eighteen years later I have developed and maintained a successful consulting firm where I am fortunate to work with clients around the world. If I hadn’t taken that risk to leave guidance, I wouldn’t have experienced all that I had during these past 18 years. Yes, it was scary, but I jumped in and did it. Go for it and encourage others to do the same thing!
